A group of Harvard Law School students travelled to the Mississippi Delta during spring break to help make a documentary about the heirs property system in the state, which can contribute to family division, stolen economic opportunity and deprivation of land for families that they have held the land for generations.

Foregoing a week on a warm beach with friends or in front of a screen with Netflix on loop, five Harvard Law students instead spent their spring break on a pro bono trip in Chicago, all taking away from the experience a deeper understanding of community lawyering and activism in pursuit of social justice.

For the fourth year in a row, a team of Harvard Law School students won the North American regional moot court competition on WTO (World Trade Organization) law at the ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC²).

Last week, the nine justices of the Supreme Court peppered Tom Goldstein, veteran of 35 oral arguments before the Court and a cofounder of SCOTUSblog, with nearly 75 questions in 30 minutes – questions he was able to answer with the help of seven Harvard Law students who spent their January term working around the clock to research, write and edit the entire respondents’ brief in City of Los Angeles v. Patel.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Harvard Law and International Development Society and the Harvard Women’s Law Association honored 50 women in their International Women’s Portrait Exhibit. More than a dozen of the honorees attended a luncheon as part of the event, on Tuesday, March 10.

The 2015 Harvard Law School Parody Beauty v. the Beast, which ran from Feb. 27 to March 3, drew sold-out audiences of students, faculty members, and visitors. Staged annually since the 1980s by the Harvard Law School Drama Society, the Parody serves as a creative outlet for many students at the law school.

On Feb. 14, the Harvard Law School LL.M. Class of 2015 hosted the International Party, an annual event at the law school for more than a decade that has served as an opportunity for graduate students to share their culture with the entire HLS community.

The Harvard Law Review has elected Jonathan Gould ’16 as its 129th president. Gould succeeds Rachel Miller-Ziegler ’15.

Since 2001, a select group of HLS students have undertaken public service internships under the auspices of the Chayes International Public Service Fellowship, dedicated to the memory of HLS Professor Abram Chayes '49.

The final round of Harvard Law School's annual Ames Moot Court competition was held this year on November 18, and was presided over by the Hon. Antonin Scalia ’60, associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States; the Hon. Adalberto Jordan, U.S. Court of Appeals Eleventh Circuit; and the Hon. Patricia Millett ’88, U.S. Court of Appeals District of Columbia Circuit.

The service and unique perspective of the veterans currently enrolled at Harvard Law School enriches the entire HLS community, elevating awareness about the legal and policy issues affecting veterans and the significance of law in contemporary warfare; two of the 12 U.S. military veterans in this year’s entering class at recently shared their experiences in the military and at HLS.

Aldel Brown grew up just a 20-minute drive from Harvard’s campus, but attending the University seemed like distant possibility. Yet this year Brown — who regularly describes himself as “just a kid from Boston” — has arrived as a member of the Harvard Law School Class of 2017.

Harvard Law School's Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs has honored two graduating students who exemplify putting theory into practice through clinical work. This year’s honorees are Lerae Kroon ’14 and Brett Heeger ’14.

A number of Harvard Law students received special awards this year during the 2014 Class Day ceremony on May 28. The honored students were recognized for their outstanding leadership, citizenship, compassion and dedication to their studies and the profession.

Harvard Law School celebrated the Harvard Law School Class of 2014, conferring a total of 750 degrees—576 J.D.s, 167 LL.M.s, and 7 S.J.D.s. Festivities began on Class Day, Wednesday, May 28, and continued through Commencement, on Thursday, May 29.
