The Vista Institute for AI Policy is hosting three virtual courses and a DC workshop for law and policy students and recent graduates pursuing careers in US AI policy.

The following opportunities are available:

1. Virtual course on National Security Law and AI, June 19-28: This training provides an overview of AI-related national security risks and geopolitical challenges alongside essential legal and policy frameworks. It will include sessions on: Tools like the DPA, IEEPA, and AI export controls taught by law professors Alan Rozenshtein and Kevin Frazier; Security threats to algorithmic and physical AI infrastructure led by Sella Nevo from the RAND Meselson Center; Military applications of AI led by Lieutenant General John (Jack) N.T. Shanahan. A range of other talks and panels in industrial policy, energy policy, and private sector engagement from policy and legal experts including Brodi Kotila, Lennart Heim, Zaheed Kara, Michael Gerrard, Arman Shehabi, Jacopo Buongiorno and more.

2. Virtual courses on AI Agents and the Law (Module 1: June 16-29, Module 2: Aug 18 – Sept 12): These courses will provide participants an introduction to how legal concepts under torts, agency, and consumer protection laws may apply to AI agents, and an opportunity to dive deeper into topics including liability frameworks, law-following AI, and technical infrastructure. This course will be taught by Stephen Casper, Alan Chan, Sayash Kapoor, Noam Kolt, Anat Lior, Cullen O’Keefe, and Ketan Ramakrishnan.

3. AI Law and Policy Workshop, July 25-27, Washington DC: This two-day workshop will convene law and policy students with professors, researchers, and staffers for advanced discussions across topics in AI policy. Vista will cover all travel and accommodation for students invited to this workshop.

Students who participate in any program will also be eligible to apply to a funded AI Law and Policy Research Fellowship.
