Ashita is passionate about gender justice and as a Kaufman fellow, she will be spending her fellowship year at Global Justice Center in New York, working on issues related to sexual and gender-based violence. Before coming to HLS, she worked as a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of India focusing on gender rights and constitutional law. She has also worked with NGOs in India and Afghanistan on issues relating to feminist lawyering and gender based violence. At HLS, she has pursued courses on feminist legal theory, sex equality and constitutional law. She has also worked with the HLS Advocates for Human Rights on a project assisting the UN Independent Expert on protection against violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as with the Prison Legal Assistance Project.
