OPIA is now soliciting applications for the 2025-2026 Wasserstein Fellows Program. The application deadline is April 1, 2025.
Wasserstein Fellows are practicing public interest lawyers who spend three days in Cambridge meeting with individual Harvard Law students to advise them about public interest career paths. They also speak to students in group settings and assist OPIA staff in developing additional advising insights and resources. Learn more about the Wasserstein Fellowship responsibilities, eligibility, and selection criteria.
We seek applicants who have shown a long-standing commitment to public interest law and possess interpersonal qualities that will enable them to be effective career advisers, and encourage attorneys working on all public interest issue areas and who hold a range of viewpoints to apply. We aim to select a cohort of Fellows who work in practice settings and areas of law that are of elevated interest to our current students.
We especially encourage applicants who:
- Embody or demonstrate a commitment to advancing underrepresented viewpoints in the workplace and in work product.
- Work on issues related to anti-trust, environmental law, AI governance, labor, immigration, cultural heritage/art law, democracy/rule of law, and those practicing in private public interest or plaintiff’s side law firms.
In addition to our cohort of 10-12 domestic, three-day Fellows, OPIA will select three international law practitioners to spend a full week in residence at Harvard Law School advising students on pathways to international public service at nonprofit organizations and intergovernmental institutions. The international Fellows can expect to meet with a high volume of LLMs, in addition to JD students. We especially encourage applicants engaged in international trade and development, human rights, digital rights, and global climate work to apply.
Applications are due by April 1, 2025.
We invite you to apply and/or to circulate this email announcement widely among your public interest networks. If you know colleagues, mentors, mentees, or others that would make a fabulous Wasserstein Fellow, please send us their name and email address, and we will invite them to apply. Feel free to also email me with any questions about the program.
Any questions about the Wasserstein Fellowship program can be emailed to Jillian Tuck, Associate Director for Public Interest Advising, Programs, and Community Building.
