Ligia Hernandez
HUDS
In the second part of Ligia’s story, she tells us that it was not easy to tell her father why she was moving to Boston but she was able to convince him. She went to live with a cousin Norma near the Copley Sq. At the time she was taking English classes at BU in the morning and working at Northeastern University in the afternoon as a barista, making cappuccinos, in a Starbucks franchise. She studied in BU for one year and decided to stop because it was too expensive. She then found a job at Restaurant Associates at the South Station and after two years she moved to the group working at HLS. While working at RA’s South Station address she met Facundo, who is originally from Mexico, and with whom, later, she was going to marry and start a family.
Ligia and Facundo are from a traditional families and so, when they decided to get married they knew they could not bring everyone at that time then they chose to have a simple civil ceremony and a couple of years later, they had a proper traditional marriage where both sides of the family came. They just had purchased their first home when they had their first child, Andres Felipes. Later one, they had their second, Alejandro. Andres Felipe is very much involve with studying while Alejandro is all for sports, mainly soccer. Their initial plan was to have a large family but they changed their minds and decided that two was a good fit for them.
Ligia and her family have travelled to many different countries and enjoyed their experiences. She has enjoyed working at HLS and her connection with staff and students while working here. Her older son is already in college and the younger doing well in high school and playing in the MLS-MA while traveling around with his team. Life for Ligia is great and she is very appreciative of everything she has conquered and the family she has.
