Harvard uses DUO Security to provide two-step verification on HarvardKey. Two-step verification is a simple and very effective security feature that, used with HarvardKey, can protect your Harvard account even if your password is stolen. Two-step uses a second device, commonly a mobile phone, to verify your identity. Setting it up helps to assure that the person attempting to access an account is the person they are claiming to be.
Two-Step authentication is currently available for use with VPN, HarvardKey, and Office 365 email.
Faculty, Staff, and Students
Two-Step verification can be done via a standard phone, a cell phone, a smartphone (using an app), or a hardware token.
Users must already be setup with HarvardKey credentials
Users are required to setup more than one device for the Two-Step verification, in case the first device is lost or damaged.
