Posted on behalf of The Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation at HKS

The Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation, housed at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Center, is seeking a graduate student Research Assistant for a position through the spring semester.

The Research Assistant will support the work of Professor Danielle Allen, and Lab leadership, on a policy project examining the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law and opportunities to modernize it for the digital age. This work is a part of our broader research efforts to improve digital civic infrastructure and democratic engagement across the state. Responsibilities will include conducting legal and policy research on Open Meeting Law, analyzing the Attorney General’s Office guidance, conducting comparative analysis with other states, documenting how the current law affects municipal leaders’ use of social media and digital platforms, and developing policy recommendations. Deliverables may include policy briefs, memos, and legislative proposals.

The work aims to begin immediately and will continue through the spring semester. The time commitment will be approximately 5-8 hours per week. Pay will be $25/hr. Candidates should be actively enrolled in a graduate program and have previous experience with legal and policy research. Please send your resume and short statement of interest to Ryan Pell at ryan_pell@hks.harvard.edu.
