The New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (DCR) seeks highly-motivated law students with a passion for protecting civil rights to participate in its fall externship program in DCR’s Newark Office. DCR is the division in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office that is responsible for combating discrimination in New Jersey. DCR investigates civil rights violations and brings appropriate enforcement actions to combat those violations. DCR also issues regulations and reports on the most important civil rights issues in the state. And it hosts trainings and conferences with employers, community groups, faith communities, and other stakeholders on those issues.
Fall externs will work closely with DCR staff to help develop legal, regulatory, and policy strategies to protect the civil rights of New Jersey residents. They will also have opportunities to investigate cases and draft documents to enforce the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, one of the strongest civil rights laws in the country. Fall externs will also be able to attend workshops and trainings that will develop their legal skills.
