William Howell, student programs manager in the Dean of Students Office at Harvard Law School, received the Suzanne L. Richardson Staff Appreciation Award during Class Day exercises on May 25. He was selected by the Class of 2011 for his work with student organizations and student journals, his creative problem solving, and his willingness to go the extra mile on behalf of students.
Howell works with the nearly 100 student organizations at the Law School, oversees 16 student journals and manages the office finances. Throughout the year he coordinates a multitude of annual events, including student conferences, symposia, panels, fairs, fundraisers and trips. He also plans and manages the HLS Orientation and Commencement events. He is a graduate of Keene State College.
Howell is the 16th recipient of the staff award and the eighth since the award was renamed for the late Suzanne Richardson, dean of students at HLS from 1993 to 2004.
The award is given each year to a member of the staff who demonstrates commitment to the student experience and concern for students’ lives and work at HLS. The other finalists this year were Susana Arteta (Legal Aid Bureau), Lauren Chitwood-Schauf (faculty assistant), Glenn Santos (IT Help Desk) and Yvonne Smith (Dean of Students Office).
