HLS Professor Elizabeth Warren testified at the hearing entitled, “TARP Accountability and Oversight: Measuring the Strength of Financial Institutions” on Tuesday June 9, 2009. In the hour-long hearing, Warren, chairman of the Congressional Oversight Panel, testified about the government stress test evaluations of financial institutions, the impact of the results on restoring market confidence, and the panel’s current oversight activities as they relate to the TARP program. Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, chair of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) convened the hearing to examine the Congressional Oversight Panel’s (COP) June report to Congress, providing the panel’s assessment of the stress tests and the implications the tests have for the ongoing mission of TARP and the institutions using its resources.
