On Thursday, November 6, the Harvard Law School Saturday School program will host a speech by attorney John Payton. Payton served as lead counsel in Gratz v. Bollinger, which challenged the University of Michigan undergraduate admission program and Grutter v. Bollinger, which challenged Michigan’s law school admissions policies. Payton’s remarks on the meaning and challenges of the Michigan decisions will begin at 6 p.m. in Pound 107. The event will be webcast for those unable to attend.
A 1977 graduate of Harvard Law School, Payton is currently a partner at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. He was recently named one of America’s top black lawyers by Black Enterprise magazine.
The Harvard Law School Saturday School Program was established in 1988 by Professor Charles Ogletree Jr. to provide a forum for students to engage in constructive dialogue with professors, legal practitioners, elected officials, judges and others.
