Susan Carney ’77 has been nominated by President Barack Obama ’91 to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Since 2001, Carney has served as deputy general counsel at Yale University, where her work has addressed scientific research, intellectual property, health care and Yale’s international affiliations and transactions. She is also a member of Yale’s International Advisory and Research Compliance committees.
After law school, Carney clerked for Judge Levin Campbell on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. From 1979 to 1986, she practiced with Rogovin, Huge & Lenzner in Washington, D.C., and she later practiced with Tuttle & Taylor and the labor law firm, Bredhoff & Kaiser both in Washington, D.C. Prior to her appointment at Yale, Carney served as associate general counsel of the Peace Corps.
In addition to her J.D. from HLS, Carney holds an A.B. from Harvard College.
