The American Law and Economics Association recently named Professor Steven Shavell as co-editor of the association’s official journal, the American Law and Economics Review. Shavell will assume the co-editorship position from Judge Richard Posner to serve alongside co-editor Orley Ashenfelter, economics professor at Princeton University.

“I look forward to this editorial position and to providing a place where social-science oriented studies of legal issues can be published,” said Shavell, a specialist on law and economics. “I am particularly interested in encouraging submission of high-quality empirical work and improving the speed with which submissions are handled.”

Founded in 1991, the association is composed of academic and practicing lawyers and economists. It holds an annual two-day meeting in May where members present papers regarding the interrelation of law and economics, and it has published the peer-reviewed journal American Law and Economics Review since 1999.

Shavell joined the Harvard Law faculty in 1980 and became director of the John M. Olin Center for Law, Economics, and Business in 1995. He currently teaches courses on analytical methods and the economic analysis of law. For more information, visit Shavell’s faculty page.
