Harvard Law School Professor Cass Sunstein ’78 is highlighted in the Jan. 5 issue of Newsweek magazine as one of four thinkers “whose philosophies seem to have captured the intellectual moment.” In the story, “The Power of Ideas,” Sunstein is recognized in particular for his book, “Nudge,” co-authored with Richard Thaler.
“Americans don’t always make the best choices for themselves,” the article says. “(Subprime loan, anyone?) That, Sunstein argues in his latest book, ‘Nudge,’ is why governments need to design policies—like automatic opt-ins for 401(k)s—that push people toward better conclusions. Obama is already a fan.”
Also noted in the Newsweek story are Joseph Stiglitz, who predicted today’s financial collapse in his 2003 book, “The Roaring Nineties,” Peter Barnes for his ideas on addressing climate change and Dr. George Church , who launched the Personal Genome Project. The citations are part of a feature on the “Global Elite.”
