Two more HLS alumni have been named to high-level posts in the Obama Administration. Nancy-Ann DeParle ’83 has been appointed director of the White House Office for Health Reform, and Jeremy Bash ’98 will be CIA Director Leon Panetta’s chief of staff.
DeParle will work with the newly named Secretary of Health and Human Services, former Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, on crafting and selling the administration’s efforts to revamp the healthcare system. She was previously commissioner of the Department of Human Services in Tennessee. During the Clinton administration, DeParle oversaw Medicare and Medicaid as the administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration.
Bash has been the chief counsel of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he worked with Rep. Jane Harman ’69 (D-CA) and Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-TX). He also worked on the Obama transition team’s intelligence committee and assisted Panetta through the confirmation process.
