More than 250 Harvard Law School staff gathered in Milstein East on October 12 for a celebration of staff and a recognition of longer service employees at the law school’s annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
At one of the largest staff-only gatherings since pre-COVID times, the buzz of conversation filled the room of tables decorated with fall floral arrangements and orange pumpkins. One hundred and fifty-two staff members who have worked at Harvard University for 15 years or more were recognized at the event.
Tracee Whitley, dean of administration, and Roxanne Armbruster, assistant dean and chief of human resources, opened the annual luncheon with brief remarks and thanked everyone for their hard work and dedication.
“Harvard Law School is a very special place,” said Dean John F. Manning ’85, the Morgan and Helen Chu Dean and Professor of Law. “And I am grateful to all of you for making this place work, for enabling HLS to achieve its mission.”
In his remarks, the dean reflected on HLS staff members’ extraordinary contributions and collaboration over the past year.
“We worked together in a way and to a degree I’m not sure we’ve ever done before. We worked across departments on so many important things, with everyone contributing something different and something important,” said Manning, noting a few of the cross-departmental achievements, from the rolling out the new HLS website, to holding two Commencements in one weekend.
“We saw that this kind of collaboration across the School is not only productive, but a tremendous way to build community and new friendships, and to learn and accomplish things together,” he said.
Manning also welcomed the more than 60 new staff members who have joined Harvard Law School in the past six months, and he recognized the newest members of the longer service staff — all of whom have served the university for at least 15 years. They include:
- Carey Capone Andersen, assistant project manager (Facilities)
- Kelly Garvin, communications and systems administrator(Charles Hamilton Houston Institute)
- Stephanie Goldenhersh, assistant director and senior clinical instructor, Family Law Practice (Legal Aid Bureau)
- Megan Markov , associate registrar for technology and enrollment services (Registrar)
- Michael Mellor, Access Services Coordinator (HLS Library)
