In its annual meeting this spring, the American Law and Economics Association elected Professor Lucian Bebchuk as its Vice-President/ President-Elect. He will serve as vice-president until the Association’s annual meeting next spring when he will assume the Association’s presidency for one year.
“I was delighted and honored by the Association’s election,” said Bebchuk. “The use of economics and finance to study legal issues has long been central to my work, and I look forward to serving the Association over the coming two years.”
Bebchuk is the William J. Friedman and Alicia Townsend Friedman Professor of Law, Economics and Finance and director of HLS’s Corporate Governance Program. He has done extensive work in the field of law and economics, applying economics and finance to issues in corporate law, bankruptcy, contracts and litigation.
The American Law and Economics Association is a professional organization of academics from law schools, economics departments and business schools, as well as non-academics with an interest in law and economics.
Bebchuk will be the second HLS faculty member to serve as president. Steven Shavell, director of the John M. Olin Center for Law, Economics and Business, held the position from 2001 to 2002.
