Barack Obama ’91 was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States today. Chief Justice John Roberts ’79 administered the oath of office. Michelle Robinson Obama ’88 became the nation’s First Lady.
“[T]he stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply,” Obama said in his inaugural address. “The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works…”
Numerous members of the Harvard Law School community have been invited to join the new administration. Dean Elena Kagan ’86 has been nominated as Solicitor General, and Professor Cass Sunstein ’78 has been named head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, among other appointments.
