Amanda Leiter has been named the first recipient of the Beagle/Harvard Law School fellowship. A 2000 graduate of HLS, Leiter will begin her fellowship at the conclusion of her current clerkship with U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
The Beagle/Harvard Law School fellowship places recent graduates at the Natural Resources Defense Council for two years of training in nonprofit environmental law. The program was created through a donation from Beagle Foundation and its co-founder Joy Covey, a 1989 graduate of the law school.
At HLS, Leiter was president of the Environmental Law Society and managing editor of the Environmental Law Review. She won first prize in the 2001 Environmental Law Review Notes Competition. During the summer after her first year, she worked for the NRDC and spent the next summer at the Department of Justice’s environmental and natural resources division.
A graduate of Stanford University, Leiter also earned a master degree in engineering from Stanford and a master in oceanography from the University of Washington.
