As you start your summer job, you may already be thinking about what’s next and considering a change of firm or market next summer/after graduation.

As the semester winds down, if you have not yet secured a 1L summer job, we encourage you to meet with an adviser in OCS or OPIA. There is still time to secure something you are excited about, so meet with an adviser to make sure you are on-track.

If you are planning on focusing your 2L summer job search on a smaller market, you may be wondering about Preview and EIP. While many firms from smaller markets do participate, there are still a large number of smaller firms and firms from smaller markets which do not come to EIP.

Even if your first choice is to work in the private sector this summer, we encourage you to register for Summer Public Interest Funding (SPIF). The best approach to 1L summer job search is to apply broadly to positions of interest in both the private and public sector.

Many 1Ls are still seeking jobs for this summer. Most Big Law firm hiring is finishing up, but in-house legal department hiring is picking up.

Make sure to check your spam folders for employer communications. From time-to-time these emails (including some callback invitations and rejection emails) are picked up by spam filters.

As you search for your 1L job, in addition to checking the CSM job bank regularly, check out LinkedIn Jobs for a variety of positions, including in-house legal internships.
