The Emerging Leaders Program at Harvard Law School was founded in 2012 by staffers C.J. Azubuine and Maria Leister. It was created in an effort to support then-Dean Martha Minow’s mission to foster a learning community for staff at Harvard Law School. C.J. and Maria wanted to give HLS staff the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through varied programming including mentoring, educational sessions, community service, and other events. Today, the program continues to prosper with the support of the HLS Administration.

According to the Harvard Center for Workplace Development (CWD) Emerging Leaders is the only organically-established and volunteer-managed professional development program for staff by staff at Harvard University.
