Asmara will work with the CHU of the Federal Public Defenders in Los Angeles, California, where she had interned her 1L summer. Asmara will return to CHU to work as a staff attorney, defending clients charged with both capital offenses and non-capital crimes. Asmara has worked as a student attorney at the Prison Legal Assistance Program, at the Criminal Justice Institute, and as a summer intern at the ACLU of Massachusetts. She also gained experience outside of the courtroom as a summer clerk for Equal Justice Initiative, where she built client relationships and learned more about structural problems clients face. She was the managing editor of the Harvard Journal for Racial and Ethnic Justice. Asmara has a B.A. with high honors in History and an M.A. in Afro-American Studies, both from the University of California, Los Angeles.
