Prisoners’ Rights Office, Office of the Defender General

Erika will spend her fellowship year working as a staff attorney at the Prisoners’ Rights Office of the Vermont Defender General, which handles issues concerning the fact, length, and conditions of confinement and community supervision for people serving sentences in the state of Vermont. Erika will be representing individuals in post-conviction relief criminal appeals, parole board and bail hearing, and prison conditions litigation. She is returning to the Prisoners’ Rights Office after spending the summer after her second year of law school there as a law clerk.

While she was a student at HLS, Erika spent two years advocating for low-income tenants as a student attorney at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau and served one year as a member of the HLAB Board. Erika also served on the Executive Board of the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender and was an active member of Project No One Leaves and the Harvard Prison Legal Assistance Project. Erika holds a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Denison University.
