Who We Are
Founded in 1981, Race Forward is a national not-for-profit organization that catalyzes movement building for racial justice. In partnership with communities, organizations, and a broad range of sectors, Race Forward builds strategies and tools to advance racial justice in our policies, institutions, and culture. Race Forward’s flagship program, the Government Alliance on Race and Equity, is a national network of local and state governments that support racial equity practitioners within public agencies and institutions to transform government to create a racially just and equitable society.
Race Forward’s Legal Department provides comprehensive in-house legal services to the organization, including each of its initiatives, administrative departments, and programs, and to its Board of Trustees.
Race Forward seeks a law student to work with its Legal Department as a part-time legal extern during the Spring of 2023.
Who You Are
You will report to the General Counsel and will work with the entire Legal Department to provide legal advice and assistance to the General Counsel and staff. You will focus on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts, helping develop organizational policies and practices, and providing research and advice on employment and labor law, intellectual property law, non-profit law, cyber and data privacy law, and corporate governance and board development matters. In addition, you will help draft legal training materials and will participate in meetings with outside counsel.
About You

Race Forward works to automate as many contractual and legal processes as possible, so you will be adept with technology and enjoy the creative challenge of improving operations. Strong writing, oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are a must.
