Laurel Petrulionis will represent incarcerated people in civil rights claims as a staff attorney at the Florida Justice Institute in Miami. During law school, Laurel focused her academic and professional work on civil rights, disability rights, racial justice, and mass incarceration. As a 3L, she represented incarcerated clients in prison disciplinary hearings as a member of the executive board of the Prison Legal Assistance Program, and interned in the Capital Litigation Unit at Southern Center for Human Rights. As a 2L, she represented disabled tenants in fair housing claims in the Housing Law Clinic, and spent her 2L summer at the Florida Justice Institute advocating for the civil rights of incarcerated people. Her other public interest work includes researching civil rights claims in the Environmental Law and Policy Clinic, representing low-income people in West Virginia as a summer intern at Mountain State Justice, and working as a research assistant for Professor Jon Hanson. Prior to Law School, Laurel received a Master of International Affairs, a B.A. in International Politics, and a B.S. in Agriculture Science from The Pennsylvania State University and worked for the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign.
