Episode 22: Alexander Gonsalves

Alexander Gonsalves, Building Services Coordinator, Facilities

In this episode, Edgar learns about Alex’s family lineage from Cape Verde, Ireland and Poland. He grew up in Whitman, MA, close to the shore and cranberry pods, in a great neighborhood full of kids to bike and play with. He went to middle and high school with the same friends and had a great experience. Things changed when he had to attend college where he was the only one of his town friends who attended. During college, he took a summer job working for a contractor, where he was spent time working at different Harvard Schools doing services for the mailroom. He tells us how in HBS there is no mail delivery and everyone, student, staff and faculty, has to go to the mailroom to pick up their mail.

He was hired to work in the HLS mailroom, and later changed positions to work at the front desk of the Facilities Office. He met his wife in 2019 and they built their relationship during the pandemic, getting married recently. His wife is from the Czech Republic, and we learn about the differences in culture and challenge that she encountered here. Nowadays they are teaching their kids AJ and Arlo to learn Czech at home and passing on various cultural traditions.

Some fun facts about Alex:

-His favorite type of food is pizza
-His favorite season is Summer
-His favorite ice cream flavor is birthday cake
-The first concert he ever attended was Post Malone.
