Episode 21: Susana Arteta Part 2
Susana Arteta, Administrative Director for Harvard Legal Aid Bureau
The second part of Edgar’s conversation with Susana starts with her in Peru in search of a job. In Peru, she had to relearn cultural values and adjust in order to work. While there, she worked with a religious organization from Chicago and USAID, which both allowed her to connect with the indigenous groups.
After living in Peru, Susana moved to Boston and worked as a social worker. She talks about dealing with biases and changing her appearance and her name to sound more “American.” She went on to work and travel to multiple countries in Latin America.
In the early 2000s, Susana got a job with the Legal Aid Bureau, which was a Student Practice Organization (SPO) at the time. She talks about important figures in her work since then, describing LAB as a lobster to incoming students and shares what the work she does represents to her.

-She loves murder mysteries and science fiction.
-Her favorite food is seafood.
-Her favorite ice cream flavor is pistachio.
