Episode 10: Vaughn Samuels
Vaughn Samuels, Media Lab Associate, LXI
In this episode, Vaughn tells us how his parents, father from Brockton-MA and mother from Brooklyn-NY, met in Atlanta while studying in the Morehouse and Spelman Colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This makes Vaughn what’s called a Spelhouse baby.
Vaughn also describes his childhood in Maryland and takes a look back on his family relationship and on issues in school, now, with an adult perspective. His love for music and painting brought him to an art school in Chicago.
They talk about his move to Boston, where he connected with his father’s side of the family and how he learned about Boston neighborhoods history with his uncle’s guidance. We learn about his experience with Year Up training that granted him an internship with HLS, in ITS.
Vaughn has big dreams and he is working to make those dreams to come true.
Some fun facts about Vaughn:
-He loves “The Good Place” and “Adventure Time”
-His favorite season is Spring because of the anticipation for summer without it being too warm.
-The biggest risk he ever took was dropping out of Art School and moving to Massachusetts.
