Do not register for an externship clinic until you have conferred with Peter O’Meara to determine if you can secure work authorization.
All J.D. and LL.M. students in F-1 student status are eligible to participate in the following:
- HLS in-house clinics
- HLS student practice organizations
- HLS spring break pro bono projects
- HLS international independent clinical projects
JD students on F-1 visas are required to have work authorization to participate in an externship or domestic independent clinical. Curricular Practical Training authorization is not available for externships or domestic independent clinicals. Please contact Peter O’Meara at peter_omeara@harvard.edu if you are interested in exploring whether you could apply for pre-completion Optional Practical Training.
LLM students on F-1 visas are not eligible for domestic independent clinicals or externship clinics.
