Margie Boone will serve as the new assistant dean for the Office of Career Services, or OCS, at Harvard Law School. As a longtime member of the OCS team, Boone enters this new role with more than two decades of direct experience and a proven track record of helping Harvard Law students and alumni cultivate rewarding professional experiences. She assumes the role vacated by Mark Weber, who retired in June after 22 years of service.
In a joint message to the Harvard Law community last Friday, Morgan and Helen Chu Dean and Professor of Law John F. Manning and Dean for Student Services Jessica Soban together praised Boone’s valuable contributions to Harvard Law School:
“For two decades, Margie has brought commitment, good judgment, and professionalism to her work as she has guided countless HLS students and alumni toward successful careers and invaluable experiences. As they have for many years, Margie and the team at OCS will work in collaboration with their colleagues in the Office of Public Interest Advising to help our students achieve their highest career aspirations, whether in the public, private, or nonprofit sector. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire OCS team for their dedication, teamwork, and unwavering support of our students throughout this time of transition.”
The OCS at Harvard Law is a team of career advisors and recruitment professionals who work with current students, alumni, and employers with a focus on private sector employment and judicial clerkships. OCS operates in close collaboration with its sister office, the Office of Public Interest Advising, or OPIA, which advises on public sector and non-profit career pursuits.
After joining OCS in 2000 as an assistant director, Boone served as director of alumni advising and associate director from 2013 to 2023 before taking on the role of interim assistant dean in November 2023. With an extensive background in career advising and coaching, Boone has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the development of promising careers.
“I’m incredibly honored to be officially accepting this new position after stepping into the interim assistant dean role last November,” said Boone. “Throughout my time on the OCS team, I have been privileged to work with excellent colleagues, students, and alums as they explore the legal profession, and I am thrilled to continue this work in a new and significant leadership role.”
Prior to her time at Harvard, Boone served as a career guidance manager at Ropes & Gray in Boston where she helped develop the firm’s first career guidance program. She also practiced as an employment litigator in Boston at law firms and in the General Counsel’s Office at Boston University. Before attending law school, she worked in development at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Boone earned her B.A. in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she received Phi Beta Kappa honors and graduated cum laude. She earned her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, where her favorite co-op was with the General Counsel Office at National Public Radio.
