Ariel will be practicing as a Racial Justice Act Fellow with the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office. There, they will assist with pre-conviction challenges under the California Racial Justice Act, a developing area of law to protect criminal defendants from racially biased arrests, prosecutions, and convictions.
At Harvard Law School, Ariel was a team leader in Harvard Defenders and a student attorney in three clinics: the Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Clinic, the Crimmigration Clinic, and the Criminal Justice Institute. They also served as Solicited Content Editor for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. Ariel spent their law school summers at the Federal Defender of the Eastern District of California and assisting with civil liberties impact litigation at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
Ariel is also an award-winning journalist. Prior to law school, they worked for eight years in newsrooms, including for the daily news program Democracy Now! in New York and independent Bay Area radio station KPFA. Ariel graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in Political Economy and Music.
