Divya will develop and implement a new initiative in New York City called the Homeless Economic Justice Project hosted and supervised by CAMBA, a Brooklyn-based community organization. Divya will establish shelter-based clinics and provide legal representation to address consumer debt. Divya has worked on a debt defense case and helped staff a consumer clinic as an intern at the Urban Justice Center. At Harvard’s Consumer Protection and Predatory Lending Clinic, she handled a case against a debt collection agency that was harassing a client. She has also worked as a student attorney at the Criminal Justice Institute and served as the co-chair of the Tenant Advocacy Project at Harvard, which provides representation to public housing and Section 8 tenants. Divya has a B.A., cum laude, in Linguistics and International Studies from Yale University. After her undergraduate years, Divya spent a summer working with a battered women’s shelter and interned at the UN Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials.
