The Harvard Law Library is the world’s largest academic law library. Among other things, it is a depository library for United Nations and European Union materials and houses an impressive and ever-expanding range of historical and current materials, many not available elsewhere in the world.
The Law School’s multi-lingual and highly specialized professional librarians facilitate and enhance access to the more than 2 million volumes in the Law Library, and to its electronic resources and digitized materials — including, for example, digital collections relating to war crimes and other aspects of international, comparative and foreign law.
In addition to a skilled group of international legal studies reference librarians, the library staff also includes specialists on Anglo-American law, Chinese law, Eastern European law, Germanic law, Islamic and Middle Eastern law, Japanese law, Romance languages, and Western European law. These individuals, many of whom hold degrees in both law and library science, work closely with students, faculty, and the visitors who come from throughout the world to avail themselves of our resources.
In addition to working with students while they’re on campus, the reference librarians can help them prepare for summer work or winter term projects abroad. The librarians strongly recommend that students meet with them before traveling to identify and ensure access to the materials they may need.
