The Program
The United States Embassy in Luxembourg is accepting applications for the Dean Acheson Legal Stage (traineeship/apprenticeship) Program at the Court of Justice of the European Union for fall 2024 and spring 2025. Placements are available with a Judge of the Court of Justice, an Advocate General of the Court of Justice, or a Judge of the General Court. These 90-day, unpaid internships are open to American citizens and legal permanent residents of the United States who have completed three years of law school; French language skills are required, as well as other language skills and a background in specific aspects of law, depending on the stage. This information sheet from the embassy (PDF) provides more details about the program.
How to Apply
HLS can nominate up to three applicants for the 2024-2025 program. Applications for both Stage periods are due to the Embassy by April 24, 2024, and require a letter of nomination from HLS. As a first step, students who are interested in applying should submit a CV or resume, an unofficial copy of their HLS transcript, and an email describing their interest in the program to International Legal Studies at ils@law.harvard.edu no later than Wednesday, April 10. Nominated students will be asked to provide additional materials, including a completed application form (which ILS will provide) and official undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
