John Hart Ely (1938-2003) served on the Harvard Law School faculty from 1971 to 1982. He was a Visiting Professor of Law 1971 and 1972-1973; Professor of Law 1973-1981; and Ralph S. Tyler Jr. Professor of Constitutional Law 1981-1982.
