Samantha Chaifetz is a Partner and Co-Chair of the Appellate Advocacy Practice at DLA Piper LLP (US). She represents clients in commercial litigation, product liability suits, and government-facing disputes. Before joining DLA Piper, Samantha was an appellate attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division for fifteen years. There, Samantha briefed and argued high-stakes appeals, including challenges to the constitutionality of federal statutes and agency programs. She counselled and represented each of the 15 federal executive departments in cases across the country—including Administrative Procedure Act, FOIA, Privacy Act, No Sunshine Act, False Claims Act, and Federal Tort Claims Act cases. As a government lawyer, Samantha also served in the White House and on the Hill. From 2021-2022, she was Deputy Counsel to the Vice President, advising on matters of compliance, policy and oversight. From 2014-2015, Samantha worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee, serving as a counsel to Senator Franken on the Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law. Earlier, Samantha worked with the White House’s Office of Communications. Samantha began her career in law by clerking for Judge Betty B. Fletcher of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Louis H. Pollak of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
