Monika Bickert has spent more than 14 years working in technology law and policy. Before coming to Harvard, Ms. Bickert was Meta’s Vice President for Content Policy, managing the global speech standards for Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and other Meta services. This included developing and enforcing the rules for what people can post, advertise, and monetize on Meta platforms, managing rules for how Meta prioritizes and labels content, and setting guardrails for the training of generative AI models and features. Ms. Bickert also oversaw Meta’s cybersecurity policy, human rights policy, and youth safety policy efforts, and the team that manages government regulation of online content. Ms. Bickert originally joined Facebook in 2012 as lead security counsel, advising the company on matters including child safety and data security.

Earlier in her career, Monika served as an Assistant United States Attorney for 11 years in Washington, DC, and Chicago, prosecuting federal crimes ranging from public corruption to gang-related violence. She served as Resident Legal Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, where she specialized in Southeast Asian rule of law development and response to child exploitation and human trafficking. Monika received a B.A. from Rice University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
