Clara Spera practices trial and appellate litigation in the Government and Regulatory Litigation practice at WilmerHale. At WilmerHale, she focuses her pro bono practice on reproductive rights litigation and advising, family law, and criminal defense. At WilmerHale, she is part of a team challenging Ohio’s six-week abortion ban and regularly collaborates with leading reproductive rights organizations as part of the Abortion Defense Network. Prior to joining WilmerHale’s New York office, Clara was a Pro Bono Fellow at the Federal Defenders of New York (Brooklyn) and an Equal Justice Works Fellow at the American Civil Liberties Union, Reproductive Freedom Project, where she brought several challenges to abortion restrictions in both federal and state courts. Clara served as a law clerk to the Hon. Robert A. Katzmann of the Second Circuit, and the Hon. Denise Cote of the Southern District of New York. Clara graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she was a Managing Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review and awarded the Dean’s Award for Community Leadership. She earned an M.Phil in Multi-Disciplinary Gender Studies from the University of Cambridge, and a B.A with Honors in French Literature from the University of Chicago. Clara is a member of the Equal Rights Amendment Coalition’s ERA Advisory Council.
