The Role of the Department of Justice in Voting Rights Litigation

Please join the Harvard Law School Equal Democracy Project for a conversation with Dan Freeman from the Department of Justice, who is appearing in his personal capacity. Food will be served.

Dan Freeman joined the Voting Section of the U.S. Department of Justice as an honors attorney in 2010.  He currently serves as lead counsel for the United States in LULAC v. Abbott, statewide redistricting litigation in Texas;  La Unión del Pueblo Entero v. Abbott, consolidated challenges to Texas Senate Bill 1 (2021); and other matters.  In 2022, he received the Civil Rights Division’s Maceo W. Hubbard Award for his outstanding and innovative work in enforcing federal voting rights laws.  Prior to joining the Department, he clerked for the Honorable Raymond C. Fisher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Shira A. Scheindlin of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and was an Arthur L. Liman Fellow at the New York Civil Liberties Union.
