That You May Have Life: Theology, Technology, and the Human Mystery, Prof. Simon Oliver

In our current cultural climate, human self-understanding faces a double challenge. First, the rapid emergence of Artificial Intelligence provokes profound questions concerning the nature of intellect, knowledge, and creativity. Secondly, the environmental crisis raises critical concerns about humanity’s relation to the non-human world in the order of creation. Against this background and drawing on scriptural, theological and philosophical resources, this 2026 Harvard Theological Forum keynote address by Prof. Simon Oliver, Van Mildert Professor of Divinity and Head of the Theology and Religion Department, Durham University, UK, will explore an anthropology arising from scripture, the theology of creation, and the metaphysics of life.
