The coming year will bear witness to a confluence of international litigation, on the issue of the environment and human rights, before every major international court. The International Court of Justice will opine on State obligations in the context of climate change under international law; youth groups have sued all 27 EU Member States at the European Court for Human Rights for failing to uphold climate commitments; a movement of lawyers are campaigning for the International Criminal Court to recognize the crime of ecocide; and more. Meanwhile, climate advocates fight against corporate capture at international fora, the continued oppression of indigenous nature activists, and punitive measures against climate defenders.
In light of this alignment of issues, the Harvard Human Rights Journal, along with our sponsors, SADER Legal, the Salata Institute, and the Harvard Environmental & Energy Law Program, welcome you to join us for the critical discussions that will take place during the symposium.
This event is free and open to the public upon registration (no Harvard-ID required).
A full list of speakers and panels is available on our website.
