Public Interest Piety: Unpacking the Role of Religion in 2024’s Fraught Politics

In the leadup to the 2024 election and in the wake of international flashpoints that regularly make the intersection of religion and politics increasingly salient, this event will bring together academic and public-service practitioners to discuss religion’s perennially evolving role in the public domain.
Our speakers include:
- Adam Philips, CSO at Interfaith America and former Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at USAID
- Asma Uddin: Visiting Assistant Professor of Law, Columbus School of Law and author of When Islam Is Not a Religion (2019) and The Politics of Vulnerability (2021)
- Justin Giboney, President at AND Campaign and author of Conviction (&) Compassion (2020)
Panelists will discuss the extent to which faith should have a presence in politics, if at all, and, more importantly, how voters, believers, and non-believers should process and respond to politico-religious events, especially amid our current season of partisanship, activism, and elections.
