While every U.S. President swears the same oath of office, the eight presidents who have served at least one full term since Watergate—from Carter through Trump—have employed dramatically different leadership and negotiation strategies to move the nation forward. Johns Hopkins University Professor Michael Eric Siegel argues that we can learn a great deal about our own leadership and negotiation challenges by carefully analyzing the successes and failures of these presidents as they negotiated with members of Congress, interest groups, federal agencies, and foreign leaders to implement change. Based on his book, Lessons in Leadership from the White House to Your House, Siegel will encourage participants to view historical and current events from a unique perspective and to envision new ways to evaluate the leadership potential of political candidates.
