Join us in conversation with JULIAN founder, Jill Jefferson. Learn more about how to pave your own path, movement lawyering and the ongoing legal challenges facing civil rights litigators in the Deep South.
Jill Jefferson is the founder of JULIAN, a civil rights and international human rights organization. Prior to her legal career, she researched civil rights cold cases, which became the inspiration for her nonprofit. JULIAN’s mission is to revive the spirit, effectiveness, strategy, and impact of the civil rights movement to end lynchings, unjustified police killings, and other hate crimes and rights violations. Jefferson attained her J.D. from HLS in 2018, since then, she has worked on civil rights policy alongside Congressman John Lewis, implemented policy under the Obama White House and served as a speechwriter during Obama’s 2012 campaign. Today, Jefferson and her organization litigate police misconduct, investigate lynchings, and continue pivotal civil rights litigation in the Deep South.
