Kelman Seminar — Courageous Citizenship: A Grassroots Response to Political Polarization in America

Political polarization in the United States has become one of the defining conflicts of our time, and one that most Americans say they want a way out of. Braver Angels is the largest national volunteer organization helping Americans build together with people who see the world differently. They call it courageous citizenship.

In this talk, Maury Giles, CEO of Braver Angels, will share what the organization has learned over nearly a decade about what actually shifts when people contend without contempt, why a volunteer-led movement is uniquely positioned to change civic culture, and what this work suggests for anyone practicing conflict resolution, negotiation, or peacebuilding in deeply divided societies. The talk will be followed by Q&A session moderated by Donna Hicks.
