Please join the Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law (JSEL) and the Committee on Sports and Entertainment Law (CSEL) for a panel reflecting on the 60th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, which heightened the standard to prove defamation for public-figure plaintiffs. We will discuss the future of the decision and whether the doctrine continues to effectively balance First Amendment principles with the harms of defamation. Speakers will include Meryl Governski (Partner at Willkie, Farr & Gallagher, who recently helped win a $148M judgment against Rudy Giuliani for his claims surrounding the 2020 election), and David McCraw (General Counsel at the New York Times and Lecturer on Law at HLS).

Please contact Danielle Mikaelian at dmikaelian@jd25.law.harvard.edu with any questions.
