A year into the Israeli government’s effort at judicial reform, and amidst the ongoing war in Gaza, Israel’s Supreme Court published a momentous ruling striking down one of the government’s signature pieces of legislation meant to curb its powers (the “reasonableness” amendment). The talk will discuss the Court’s decision, reflecting both on the constitutional innovations it included and the judicial politics it exhibited, and will suggest some of its possible implications for Israel going forward.
