In July, the International Court of Justice issued a historic advisory opinion concluding that Israel’s decades long occupation and annexation of Palestinian territory is illegal under international law and that all nations had the duty to recognize it as such and not assist its perpetuation. Professor Ardi Imseis served as Legal Counsel to the State of Palestine before the ICJ and will discuss the recent Israeli Policies Advisory Opinion and the counter-hegemonic potential of international law.

Prof. Imseis has served in senior legal and policy capacities with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as well as on the United Nations commission of inquiry into the civil war in Yemen. He has provided expert testimony in his personal capacity before various high-level bodies, including the UN Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council, and the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
