The Harvard Law School Writing Center helps students and faculty with their writing for courses and publications.
The HLS Writing Fellows offer comments and one-on-one consultations on writing-in-progress.
Who Comes to the Writing Center
The Writing Center is for HLS students writing analytical papers:
- Upper-Level J.D.s writing for courses, publications, and the analytical paper requirement (professional documents should go to the Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs).
- 1L J.D.s writing for electives (LRW coursework should go to your Climenko Fellow and/or BSA).
- LL.M.s and S.J.D.s writing for publications (coursework should go to the LL.M. Writing Program).

What Happens in a Consultation
- You schedule an appointment using the below scheduler.
- You submit your writing: anything you’ve done so far, even if it’s just messy notes or a rough draft.
- We send back written comments and an agenda for a conversation about your paper.
- We meet to discuss the paper: this is where the magic happens and ideas are strengthened in conversation.
- You move the paper along to the next step in the writing process, and come see us again if we can be helpful.
