Join us for Student Government’s second HLS TALKS event of the school year! HLS TALKS is a student-speaker series that provides an open forum for us to share our stories and connect with each other as individuals, not just as law students.
Amir Ashour will share his story founding IraQueer, Iraq’s first LGBT+ organization, discussing how the organization overcame challenges and leveraged opportunities to achieve historic milestones for LGBT+ Iraqis—including successfully thwarting five attempts by the parliament to legally punish LGBT+ Iraqis with the death penalty. Salomé Van Bunnen will share how her scoliosis and her mother’s heart disease impacted her life and how she deals with these challenges. She will also invite you to think about your life challenges and how they can make you grow. Last but not least, Francis Ben Kaifala will describe his experience fighting corruption as the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission in the Republic of Sierra Leone and as a member of multiple other anti-corruption institutions, including (NACIWA, AUABC, and AAACA). His talk will draw insights from his personal story as a student and professional lawyer serving in Africa for over 16 years, and as a leader at the top level in government and in the African Union (AU).
HLS TALKS is on Wednesday, November 15th at 7pm in WCC 1015. Food will be provided.
